The cast of the Queen’s annual youth theatre show were overjoyed to receive standing ovations for their sensational production of Seussical the Musical at the weekend!
More than 100 budding performers aged 7-19 starred in three sold-out performances on 4 and 5 July – a company combining members of the Queen’s Q Youth Theatre and Dance groups. This vibrant musical is based on the books of well-loved children’s writer Dr Seuss – bursting with favourite characters like the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant and Jojo the young Who!
After 16 weeks of rehearsals for an enormous production containing 40 songs and plenty of choreography – from jazz and swing by a live band to the cheeky Charleston; several multi-coloured scene changes – from the green lands of the Jungle of Nool to sunshiney Who-Ville; and no fewer than 150 elaborate costume changes… cast and crew are over the moon that all their hard work has been such a huge success!
“We are so proud of our Youth Theatre at the Queens Theatre, Hornchurch,” beams Director and Designer James Watson. We have had an incredible weekend working on Seussical the Musical: stunning performances, passionate young people, and standing ovations from a packed auditorium.
“Members of Youth Theatre also worked as crew backstage and we have a number of older members leaving to pursue careers in theatre – we’re delighted the Queen’s is continuing to fulfil its ambition to help create the theatre-makers of tomorrow.”
