Ludwigshafen in central Germany was evacuated from 08:00 local time (06:00 GMT) to 14:00 today due to a WW2 bomb.

The aerial bomb, weighing 500 kg (1,100lbs), was discovered by construction workers and this led to the evacuation of 18,500 people

The city authorities posted a photo of the bomb on their twitter account:

Havering was twinned with Ludwigshafen in the 1970’s. The twinning was founded by the police when Members of the International Police Association of Ludwigshafen and the then K-Division of Havering met, and from this meeting idea in 1971 the two places became twinned
