Hornchurch skatepark first in Europe to be given listed status

Category: History 15

The Rom Skatepark in Hornchurch had been named the first skatepark in Europe to be given listed status, as a grade II listed site.

This means that the Rom skatepark now has the same protection as the BT Tower and BBC Television Studio

The Rom, built in Hornchurch in 1978 was designed by Adrian Rolt and G-Force and is the best example of a small number of skateparks that survive from the 1970s

A lot of people on social networks have been asking where The Rom is located. For such a large structure, of such historical significance, it seemed that most of us were unaware of it’s existence (I include myself in that)

Do you have experience of the park? Contact us with your stories about the site and we will place them on the site
