New health centre for Hornchurch a step closer

Message from Dr Gurdev Saini, clinical director at Havering CCG and chair of the St George’s Hospital Redevelopment Delivery Board:

Havering Council’s planning committee has voted to approve an outline planning application for a new health facility on the St George’s Hospital site in Hornchurch, Planning permission was also granted for a development of nearly 300 new homes on the site.

Outline planning permission means the planners are content with the principle of a new healthcare development on this site, but what it does not do is determine the details. There is still much work to be done to agree the design and makeup of the site, how the development will be built and funded, and which services it will house.

Now that we have secured the outline permission we need, we can work in partnership with site owners NHS Property Services and local stakeholders to develop this new health and wellbeing centre. As we have previously said, we would like this development to include a health and wellbeing centre that offers outpatient clinics, GP services and a joint team of health and social care professionals, as well as space for local voluntary and community groups.

This is a great opportunity for residents of Hornchurch – old and new – and we need to take the time to get it right, but I can assure you that our aim is to create a quality health facility with services that best meet the needs of local people. We will of course continue to keep local people and partners informed as these plans develop further.
