The jobcentre was approached by a care home looking to recruit some new staff. They have several care homes in Kent already and were in the process of opening a new home in London Road in Romford and needed help with recruiting staff for a variety of roles. Staff from Romford and Hornchurch jobcentre worked as a borough team to assist them in finding staff. The jobcentre offered a sifting service for any interested applicants. All appropriate CVs were then forwarded to Pervine King and Sheree Wright to select any customers they would like to interview. Interview rooms were arranged at Hornchurch jobcentre for the care home to use to interview the customers. They attended for three separate days to interview both the customers we had referred and also customers they had selected from the recruitment process from their own website. Candidates were supported by the front of house staff from the jobcentre to do literacy and numeracy tests before entering for the interview with Pervine and Sheree.

As a result of this process 6 customers have managed to secure jobs which will start in the next couple of weeks in the home and we are still assisting Pervine and Sheree by allowing the use of the interview room and photocopying facilities to do Identity and DBS checks with the customers. It is important to note that 3 customers were in the 18-24 age group and 3 were in the 50+ age group, a pleasing achievement in light of the Get Britain Working agenda and supporting our older customers in to work. Two of the 18-24 customers were also eligible for the Wage Incentive so had been unemployed for more than 6 months.

Sheree actually stated that we had helped the home meet at least 50% of their initial recruitment needs with our customers we referred and the whole recruitment process was smooth and professional (see quote below)
