We could all do with a good news story every now and again and, with assistance from the people at Hornchurch’s Jobcentre, we will be publishing good news stories each week in HornchurchLife’s Good News

“There was a lone parent who had been claiming benefit since June 2013. She had experienced difficulties in her previous job and had to leave.  She was lacking confidence and feeling quite vulnerable. As the school holidays were approaching and there was no availability on Launchpad she was referred to HAVCO (Havering association of voluntary and community organisations) and gained support form them. Her confidence grew and she was very flexible regarding the types of work she would apply for. She was very proactive in her job search and applied for roles identified by her adviser as well as those she found herself. She secured several interviews but was not successful. She was then referred to Launchpad and started the course at the beginning of January. She enjoyed this immensely and looked forward to the work placement element of the course. She was given a placement in Gants Hill working for a sales company and although the journey there was not straightforward she coped well and was very enthusiastic. Her abilities were recognised by the employer; she was given more responsibility, was tasked with helping the accounts department, and was responsible for banking and other duties. Her placement finished on 21st March and she was offered a job as the accounts manager. She started paid work on 1st April. Needless to say she is delighted and so is her adviser!”
