What’s on in and around Havering in February 2019. I’ve included Brentwood Theatre’s half term children’s activities

All Shock up
The Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch
30th January – 2nd February

A new musical comedy based on Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” and built around a number of songs made famous by Elvis Presley.

In a square state, in a square decade, in a square little town where the “Mamie Eisenhower Decency Act” outlaws “loud music, public necking and tight pants”, the townsfolk are lamenting the greyness of their lives, when the sound of a motorcycle cuts through the air. Chad, a leather-jacketed, hip-swivelling, guitar-playing stranger, electrifies a broken-down jukebox with his bare hands, infecting everyone with the rebellious spirit of his music and helping the townsfolk to discover the magic of romance and the power of rock & roll.

Kiss Me Quickstep
The Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch
22nd February – 9th March

A sequin-studded warm-hearted ballroom drama.

Three young couples are striving for glory on the competitive dance circuit – having finally made it to Blackpool’s National Amateur Championships via the motorway hard shoulder.

But there’s pain and heartbreak beneath the dazzling glitter ball when you’re dancing to other people’s tunes and hiding secrets. And with the world at your feet, it only takes one false step…

This bittersweet comedy reveals the backstage stories behind the fabulous frocks, fixed smiles and fake tan, looking at the real lives of those for whom dancing is everything.

Described as Britain’s ‘most consistently popular female dramatist’, Amanda Whittington writes for theatre and radio (including Women’s Hour). Previous hits at the Queen’s Theatre include Ladies Day and Satin ‘n’ Steel.
