People in Upminster, Elm Park and Hornchurch were surprised when they woke up to the sight of Hot Air Balloons in the sky on Sunday 19th June.

The balloons were in aid of Balloon Regatta, The Lord Mayor’s Appeal, working to raise awareness and funds for the Charity and to promote the City of London and those associated with it.

The Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor of London, Alderman the Lord Mountevans:

“The Lord Mayor’s Balloon Regatta raises funds and awareness for the Lord Mayor’s Appeal charities – this year supporting young people to overcome challenges and to excel. And what better inspiration to reach for the heights, than the Lord Mayor’s Balloon Regatta: a glorious celebration of London’s glittering skyline. Thanks to Ricoh for their generous three-year support, and to all the other organisations taking part, thousands of young people will be supported, and Londoners will enjoy the most uplifting, stunning sight this June.”

The unexpected sight of the balloons caused the hashtags #HotAirBalloons and #BalloonRegatta to start to trend on twitter and was mentioned by a lot of people in Upminster
