Ingrebourne Valley Visitor Centre has released a list of events for March & April 2o17:

  • To book your place please call into the centre, call 01708 520364 or email ingrebourne@essexwt.org.uk.
  • Please note the majority of our events require advance booking and payment to secure a place unless otherwise stated.
  • Most of our events take place outside so please come prepared for the days weather with suitable clothing and footwear to stay safe and comfortable.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult on all events unless otherwise stated.
  • Please note that the car park is free but has limited capacity especially on busy days. Please use the excellent public transport links, walk or cycle where possible.

Little Badgers – Toddler and Pre School Group Every Tuesday and Friday (incl. School Holidays) – 10.30 am – 12 noon. Fri 3rd, Tues 7th, Fri 10th, Tues 14th, Fri 17th, Tues 21st, Fri 24th, Tues 28th and Fri 31st March
Indoor and outdoor fun for toddlers and pre-schoolers with their parents and carers; woodland play, craft, stories, learning through play and exploration. A different theme each week. £6 donation in advance per child per session Siblings £4. Book 6 sessions for the price of 5 if booked and paid together.

Free Buggy Walks –- Every Tuesday 1.30pm (Including School Holidays)
Tues 7th, Tues 14th, Tues 21st and Tues 28th March
Bring your little one in their pram or buggy for a brisk 45 minute led walk around Hornchurch Country Park. Enjoy the fresh air and beautiful surroundings while meeting new friends. No need to book. Meet outside the centre.

Introduction to the Birds and other Wildlife of the Ingrebourne Valley – Saturday 11th March – 10 am – 12 noon
Join Dave McGough on a walk around Hornchurch Country Park and the surrounding Living Landscape to experience the fantastic array of wildlife that the valley holds. Suitable for beginners. Meet at the visitor centre. Every 2nd Saturday of the month. £5 donation in advance per person. .

Merlins Bird Watching Club for Young People – Saturday 11th March – 10.30 am – 12.30pm
Named after the Merlin engines that once powered RAF Hornchurch’s Spitfires. Armed with binoculars, bird guide and notepad (all provided) join Brenda our birdwatching guide to spot, observe and identify the bird life of Hornchurch Country Park. Suitable for 8 year olds + (unaccompanied). Also every Thursday in the school holidays.
£6 donation in advance per child siblings £4.

Birdie Birds – Sunday 12th March – 10 am – 12 noon
A fortnightly bird watching group for women. Join our friendly and knowledgeable volunteer Brenda and enjoy a walk around Hornchurch Country Park and surrounding areas spotting and identifying birds and other wildlife along the way. £5 donation in advance per person.

Woofs and Walkies – Sponsored Guided Dog Walk – Sunday 19th March 2017 – 11am – 12 noon (Registration from 10 am)
A guided dog walk approximately 3.4km/2.5 miles in length (a shorter walk will also be available) to explore Hornchurch Country Park and the surrounding Landscape with your furry friend raising funds for Essex Wildlife Trust and the Retired Greyhounds Owners Association. The walk is open to all breeds and a goody bag will be provided to each entrant. There will be dog related stalls and refreshments outside the visitor centre. No need to book just turn up on the day to register. Dogs are required to be on a lead for the duration of the walk. £5 donation per dog.

Optics (Binocular) Day – Sunday 26th March – 12 noon – 3pm
Come and speak to our resident expert Brenda about the range of optics we have for sale to see what will best suit you. We have optics for every price range. Just pop along, no need to book.

A Walk through the past of Hornchurch Country Park – Sunday 2nd April 10.30am – 12.30 pm
Join the Parks Ranger Mick Greenslade as he walks you through 100 years of history at this fascinating location. View artefacts and take a step back in time. Advance booking essential

EASTER SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

Activity sheets to use out in the park will be available throughout the school holidays. Please ask at reception.

Wildlife Super Heroes – Monday 3rd April 2pm – 4 pm
Test your super powers through outdoor games and challenges and discover the many wildlife super heroes there are. Come along in your favourite Super Hero outfit and make a super hero craft to take home. Age Guide 3-7 years. £6 donation in advance per child siblings £4.

Make a Bug Hotel – Tuesday 4th April – 2.30pm – 4.30pm
Use recycled materials to make a mini bug hotel to take home for your garden or local open space. Drop in Session. Donation £3 per child.

Build a Time Capsule – Monday 10th April – 2pm – 4pm.
Come along to this historic site and learn about the past and create your own time capsule to take home to be discovered in the future. Further information on what to bring along will be provided closer to the event. Age Guide 6 years +. £6 donation in advance per child siblings £4.

Bike Marking and Travel Advice – Wednesday 12th April – 10am – 2pm
Come and see officers from the Metropolitan Police Safer Transport Team outside the visitor centre who will security mark your bicycle and are available for advice on safer travel.
Free event with no booking required just come along with your bike.

Wildlife SOS – Thursday 13th April – 2pm – 4pm
Come and be a wildlife rescuer and help the park’s animals. There will be lots of cuddly animals in need of your help; badgers, rabbits, hedgehogs, birds and much more. Check over your animal to find out what is wrong then do your best to help them return to the wild. Wildlife rescue equipment will be provided. Come in your medical outfits if you wish. This is an indoor and outdoor activity. Age guide 3+ years. £6 donation in advance per child siblings £4.

Easter Fun Weekend – 15th – 16th April
Come along and join in the Easter Egg Trail around the park, create an Easter themed craft and receive your very own Chocolate Easter Egg from the Easter Bunny. There are four session slots on both days 10.30 -11.30, 11.30 – 12.30, 12.30 – 1.30pm, and 1.30 – 2.30pm. £6 donation in advance per child.

Havering Adult College – Digital Photography Course – Birds & Wildlife – Starting Tuesday 18th April – 1pm -3pm for 5 Weeks.
Develop your photography skills in capturing images of the stunning Ingrebourne Valley. Learn how to use your camera to take stunning photographs. Fee £70.00/ 60 years + £53.00/ Concession Fee £35. Book your

Havering Adult College – Art course – Oil and Pastels – Starting Thursday 20th April – 9.45am – 12.15pm for 10 Weeks.

The Material Girls Textile Exhibition – Bank Holiday Weekend Saturday 29th – Monday 1st May
Following a successful British Bird Exhibition at the centre last year locally based group ‘The Material Girls’ are back to present an exhibition of textile art inspired by the diverse natural environments, landscapes and ecosystems found in Essex. The exhibition will be available to view during our normal opening hours.

 

Cancellation of Events:
Advance booking and payment is required for the majority of our events.
In the event you wish to cancel a booking:
All cancellations and transfers must occur 24 hours before the session. Where possible customers can transfer their booking to a different session/activity within one month of original session date. No refund or transfer can take place if this prevents the session from running. Only one transfer can be made from a set of block bookings and this must be within one month of the original session date.
All fully booked events will run a waiting list. Where someone on the waiting list is able to fill the cancelled place a full refund will be given.
