Thursday mornings at 10.30am (Main Road entrance gates)
The summer yoga walks are proving a hit. For a walk in the park with a difference join Mary in Raphael Park, Main Road, Gidea Park RM2 5EB on Thursday mornings. The group meets at 10.30am at the Main Road entrance gates during the summer holidays. It’s suitable for everyone including complete beginners or people who wouldn’t normally go to a conventional yoga class. It’s a unique opportunity to experience yoga in a friendly and informal setting. Walkers are taught breathing techniques to improve their lung capacity and there are be yoga stops along the way using natural spaces in the park. All the postures and sequences are practiced standing or sitting (using park seats) so there’s no need for yoga mats or special clothes.
Afterwards those who want to can stay for coffee and chat in Raphael’s Restaurant/Cafe. Sessions are free although participants can make a donation in aid of First Step if they want to at www.justgiving.com/yoga15.
So far, only adults (and dogs) have taken part but accompanied children are welcome to join the fun. Colouring sheets and activities are provided for them and each week has a slightly different theme. Raphael Park hosts a bouncy castle event on Thursday afternoons so why not bring a picnic and make a day of it?
