Miniature railway to be built in Romford

The Havering Miniature Railway Club was founded in June 2014 and have always been committed to laying a 7 1/4″ gauge railway in Havering. After applying for planning permission to build the railway in Lodge Farm Park, all the councillors on the planning committee give the plans their unanimously support.

The railway club say:

We were looking to operating the railway by the summer. The railway will be able to provide rides for adults and children, the journey for passengers when the line is complete will be between 500 and 600 metres long.

Our members have already made a good start with the building and at the moment meet on Sunday mornings from 10 am in the Romford Bowling Club compound in Lodge Farm Park.

We have also submitted an application to Veolia North Thames Trust for a grant towards building the line but this has not been discussed yet.

In 2015 over three bank holiday days at Easter and May the club ran some demonstration trains with steam and battery locomotives over a length of track specially laid for this purpose.

The railway club intend to run another simular event on the May Day Bank Holiday (2nd May – 11am-4pm), where they will be running temporary track in a similar arrangement to when the line is fully open

When the line is open the railway group will be asking for a small fair for rides, but the ride will be non-profit and and any fairs will be for running costs, including the costs of insurance and the lease which has been agreed with the council.
