The Pink Parachute has been an interest to me for quite a while, they came to Hornchurch in August 2015 and since then have given anyone the chance to decorate all sorts of pottery, from plates to photo frames.

The shop actually has over 200 different items with prices ranging from £5 up to £40-£60 (for really large items). Unlike other studios they do not charge a studio fee, instead the prices on the shelves include the ceramic, paints, glazing and firing.

The Average spend is £14-£18 per person but they tell me that they also do cheaper arts and craft sessions in the holidays. They also provide fresh coffee and cakes, but this does cost extra.

I took my two girls to the shop and they both chose the teddy bear piggy banks and got on decorating them.

My 6 year old absolutely loved it and got on with decorating but my 2 year old got bored after a little while and took advantage of the shop’s little play area, with toys and books, this kept her happy until her sister had finished her teddy bear.

After you finish, you hand the pottery in and it goes away to be glazed and fired, this takes about a week and afterwards you will be contacted to pick up your finished piece.

I spoke to Rav, who has been shop owner since 2017, and she told me about a few of the other activities they do:

We do a Storytime for 1-4 year olds twice a week Wednesday 1pm and Friday 10am (outside of school holidays), it’s a nice way to introduce the little ones to painting and I love the fact we incorporate the reading and painting. Only £7.50 which includes story/painting/juice and biscuit.

We do late nights once a month, these are quite popular as you can bring your own alcohol and nibbles. Only pay for what you paint.

Our visit to The Pink Parachute was a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to picking up our finished bears next weekend
