Havering College welcomed ex-student Lydia Lucy back to the college on Tuesday 25th October to perform at the annual StAR’s induction celebration.

StAR’s or Student Academic Representatives are elected at the start of the academic year and have the important role of communicating the needs and issues of the student population to the Students’ Union. This allows the ‘voice’ of the students to be heard and enables the College to respond quickly to any issues.

Lydia, who successfully completed her HNC in Performing Arts (Dance) at the College in 2013 was thrilled to be asked to return to perform at the event. She was joined by puppeteer and motivational speaker, Steve Wright from Routes Puppets whose performance centred around the governments Prevent Agenda.

Students’ Union Liaison Officer, Garret Hill said:
“Learner voice is very important at Havering College. StAR events provide a platform for students to discuss topics which currently affect them, giving them the opportunity to drive improvements and inform the college of what they feel it does well. We were thankful to have Lydia Lucy return to perform, as an ex-student we hope she inspired students to realise with hard work, they can achieve their ambitions.”
