Havering College fashion student Ruqiya Ahmed has been selected as one of 20 finalists on the acclaimed FAD Fashion Futures course, securing herself a place at their Summer School with the opportunity to showcase her work at London Fashion Week 2017.
Ruqia has been attending industry led workshops on Saturday mornings for the past 10 weeks, preparing a garment to present to a panel of industry experts. The panel selected the 20 finalists from a group of 60 budding designers from Greater London and the surrounding areas.
Ruqia said: “I am super excited as I am loving being a part of FAD’s Fashion Futures Competition and cannot wait to show my work at London Fashion Week. It’s an incredible opportunity!”
The fledgling designer is currently studying at Havering College’s £6 million Centre of Creative Arts in Hornchurch, Greater London. The college holds Artsmark Gold status from Arts Council England in recognition of its commitment to, and excellence in, arts education.
Havering College’s Assistant Principal for the faculty of Arts and Science, Pauline Franckel, commented “Ruqiya is a committed, hardworking and talented student, so it’s no surprise she made the finals of FAD Fashion Futures. We are extremely proud of her for getting this far and wish her the best of luck in the final stages of the competition!”
