The Havering Volunteer Centre today announced that is has agreed to close due to ‘ongoing funding uncertainties’. It will deliver services until September because of contractual obligations and hold their last AGM at the end of September in order to say goodbye to their members
HAVCO (Havering Association of Voluntary and Community Organisation) was formed in 2001 following the request by the local voluntary sector for services to support the local groups and existed to support, promote and empower the voluntary and community sector in Havering. They would deliver advice and guidance to the 500+ Volunteers and Community Groups that work within Havering, offering services including training, ICT support, Funding advice and Networking.
In the open letter they said to their members, they commented further on the reasons they are to closing saying:
Like many of our members we have faced a lot of uncertainty with regard to our future sustainability amid a cycle of cuts and reduced funding streams for voluntary sector infrastructure. At a time when there is increasing demand for volunteers and the services provided by the voluntary sector, the funding to support the work has significantly reduced and makes it impossible for the organisation to continue. We know that many of our members and service users are faced with similar challenges
I’m certain that this will be a challenge for all charities and people seeking volunteering oppotunities previously supported by HAVCO and I hope they can find support elsewhere
Do you have a story of the support you received from HAVCO? Please contact us so that we can post a goodbye and thank you message to HAVCO
