Thompson has asked for suggestions for new names for their new 787 Dreamliner and a suggestion has been made that it should be named in honour of Hornchurch’s own Joni-Mai
The 9 year old Joni-Mai lost her battle with a rare bone cancer earlier this year
Joni-Mai from Swanbourne Drive, Hornchurch was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma at the age of five but despite being given the all clear she developed another tumour while on holiday in New York last year.
You can vote for Joni-Mai on the Thompson website, here:
We spoke to the family about the nomination and they said:
It was a friend bonnie who nominated Joni.
What a beautiful idea x we always look up at the sky and whisper Joni’s name. To think an aeroplane named Joni-Mai could be up close to heaven, safely carrying passengers here and there is a touching thought.
I think Joni would find that a very cool idea. I must admit when I first saw the campaign, I burst into tears, what a beautiful legacy x for a beautiful girl x
After the suggestion to name the plane Joni-Mai was made on her Facebook page, floods of approval went up on the page, including:
Couldn’t think of a better name to fly high in the clouds xx
Good idea, I hope you’re successful
