PETER PAN IN THE PARK IS A SHOW THAT EVEN THE WEATHER COULD NOT DAMPEN
Immersion Theatre is a multi-award nominated touring theatre company specialising in family theatre founded by Stage One Alumni. They previously toured with productions of ‘The Jungle Book’ and ‘The Importance of being Ernest’ and this time they came to Weald Park with their performance of ‘Peter Pan’
The setting is simple on stage as it all took place in ‘Weald Country Park’. This allowed the character’s greater audience interaction, such as coming out before the show and chatting to children and captain Hook chasing the cast through the park and back up onto the stage. This was further embraced by the production in the use of simple props, such as a simple cloth being used during the ‘flying to Neverland’ scenes and picture cards were all used to get the audience’s imaginations flowing.
The cast were fantastic, with the actor/actresses playing multiple characters through the show and always leaving the audience laughing. I enjoyed the audience interaction and the singing but my daughter said her favourite part was “the bit where Tinkerbelle blew a raspberry”, an example of how it can just be the simple things that make the show.
As the performance was outside, the company couldn’t control the weather and it rained a little bit, but this in no way dampened our joy at the whole show.
I was sad this was a one off performance at ‘Weald Park’ this year but hope to see the company back next year. The tour does still go on and you can see them if your near any of the following locations:
