Review of Milkshake at The Queen’s Theatre
Milkshake favourites Derek Morgan and Olivia Birchenough come to The Queen’s Theatre for a weekend special of Milkshake’s latest LIVE show. Helped by the fairy godmother (played by Kemi Majestic) Derek and Olivia try to help Milkshake Monkey to become a prince by taking a tour though the world’s favourite fairy tales before the clock strikes twelve.
The enthusiastic Derek and Olivia sing and danced on stage with backing dancers all through the show, making sure that all the audience joined in all the songs. They are joined in the fairytales by characters that anyone who watch Channel 5’s early morning children’s television will instantly recognise, including Shimmer and Shine, Bob the Builder and Fireman Sam.
All through the show the characters look to teach as well as entertain. Fireman Sam teaches us what to do if we find a fire and in each tale Milkshake Monkey shows a different moral to complete his quest.
The show is aimed at children from 2 til 7 years old and my 6 year old daughter absolutely loved the afternoon, dancing along to the songs, recognising her favourite TV characters and guessing the fairytales before they were announced. The Milkshake cast were always smiling and encouraged everyone in the theatre to take part, with all the children singing and dancing along.
I would highly recommend anyone with young children to see this show on it’s tour of the UK.
