Forget “feel-good”, BUDDY is “feel-GREAT!” Hailed as the world’s most successful rock ‘n’ roll musical, BUDDY – THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY – is ready to explode on to the stage of the Brookside Theatre, Romford in a toe-tapping, high-energy, hand-clapping extravaganza.
Almost 60 years ago, the man who altered the face of popular music was killed in a tragic plane crash that shocked the world – Buddy Holly was just 22 years old. In only three brief years, he had written and recorded over 100 songs. His music was fresh and exciting and spoke to a generation.
Theatre Manager, Jai Sepple – who will also be stepping into the Big Bopper’s “brothel creepers” – remarks; “This is certainly a story that deserves to be told. Buddy Holly did not inspire the awe and fan insanity that Elvis Presley did; nor was he able, like Chuck Berry, to stand above the fray and comment upon it. Although he was a star, he still sounded and looked like a regular guy. He was a brilliantly gifted and influential musician as well as an intriguing and complicated young man who remained true to himself in every aspect of his life.”
This dynamic, heart-rending and unforgettable musical immortalises Buddy’s all too brief life and tells the story of the three years in which he became one of the world’s most popular recording artists. Experience the drama, passion and excitement as a cast of phenomenally talented actors and musicians tell the story, from Buddy’s meteoric rise to fame, to his final legendary performance at The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. It’s a celebration of the man, his music and life that catches that unique mixture of innocence, determination, humour and charm that was Buddy Holly and this production stars some of the finest actor-musicians in the UK fronted by one of the UK’s No.1 Buddy tributes, Gordon Taggart.
An electrifying show packed with over twenty of the greatest songs ever written, including That’ll Be The Day, Oh Boy, Rave On, La Bamba, Chantilly Lace, Johnny B’ Goode, Peggy Sue, True Love Ways, Think It Over, Not Fade Away, Raining In My Heart and many, many more… this dazzling rock ‘n’ roll extravaganza will have audience young and old, rockin’ and boppin’ in the aisles… The best ‘buddy’ party in town!
