Bored of typical Friday night clubbing? You can still keep your dancing shoes on, but it’s time to get big, bold and brassy!
Say goodbye to dingy clubs and sticky floors and hello to refreshing live entertainment at the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch. The swinging Hackney Colliery Band, a brass nine-piece from East London will provide the ultimate soundtrack to your night out on Friday 10 February at 7.30pm.
Formed in 2008, Hackney Colliery Band has taken the music world by storm and is proof that success can be earned without the need of marketing budgets from big labels. They are proudly an independent band and their critically acclaimed third album, Sharpener, went straight to number 3 on the jazz charts and number 14 on the independent music charts.
They’ve collaborated with some of the nation’s favourite artists including Amy Winehouse and Eliza Doolittle and have performed at some of Britain’s biggest musical events. From playing a 45-minute set at the Closing Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics to performing at the MOBO, Brit and Mercury Awards; you name it, they’ve done it!
They bring the brass band tradition bang up to date with an eclectic repertoire that spans funk, hip-hop, rock, Balkan brass, electronica and contemporary jazz, with unexpected covers of Goldie, Adele, The Prodigy, Kanye West, Toto and more.
This event is part of the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch’s Outer Limits Festival, a rolling festival of work made by artists from Outer East London and Essex. It provides local performers, playwrights and theatre makers with a stage to get their work heard in the local community.
